Foster + Svensson acquires one more artwork by Academician Ljubica Cuca Sokić – “The Figure”
Ljubica Cuca Sokić, a distinguished Serbian and Yugoslav painter of the 20th century, remains a defining figure in the region’s modern art history. Born in Bitola, she completed her education in Belgrade, where she studied under prominent artists and professors who shaped her early artistic development. Her career was further enriched by time spent in Paris, where she exhibited her works and absorbed the influences of the European art scene.
Throughout her artistic evolution, Sokić developed a visual language marked by restraint, clarity, and intimacy. While her earlier works explored still lifes, interiors, and human figures, her later practice moved toward reduction and essential form. This progression resulted in compositions that convey quiet tension and refined balance, where line and structure assume a central role.
The artwork “The Figure”, executed in drawing ink on paper, exemplifies this mature phase of her practice. Through a disciplined economy of means, the composition reveals the artist’s sensitivity to form, presence, and gesture. The medium itself underscores immediacy and precision, allowing the essence of the subject to emerge through deliberate, controlled expression.
Foster + Svensson is pleased to announce the acquisition of this original work, further strengthening its Private Art Collection with a piece that reflects both historical significance and artistic clarity. This acquisition builds upon the company’s continued engagement with the legacy of Academician Ljubica Cuca Sokić, following a previous inclusion of her work in the collection.
The presence of original artworks within the Foster + Svensson environment enables a direct encounter with artistic thought and process. Such proximity encourages deeper understanding of visual language, material exploration, and conceptual development – elements that resonate with the company’s own approach to creativity, strategy, and design.
